SMID belongs to the Higher School of Computer Engineering on the campus of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) in Albacete. It was created in 2002 and since then it is directed by Prof. José Antonio Gámez Martín, and by Prof. José Miguel Puerta Callejón, both Professors at the University of Computer Systems.

The research carried out by the SIMD group is aligned with the Intelligent Specialization Strategy of Castilla-La Mancha 2014-2020 (RIS3), in which information technologies (ICT) are defined as a transversal factor with application in different priority sectors and the commitment to the development of synergies between the health sector and essential facilitating technologies.

The fundamental lines of research are the following:

  • Evolutionary/metaheuristic computing.
  • Data mining/machine learning.
  • Probabilistic graphical models/Bayesian.
  • Networks Natural language processing.
  • Mobile Robotics (autonomous robots).
  • Intelligent Systems.
