The Intelligent Systems and Data Mining Research Group

University Professor
Luis de la Ossa

The Intelligent Systems and Data Mining Research Group (SMID) belongs to the Higher School of Computer Engineering on the campus of the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM) in Albacete. It was created in 2002 and, since then, it has been directed by Prof. José Antonio Gámez Martín, and by Prof. José Miguel Puerta Callejón, both University Professors of Computer Systems.

The research carried out by the SIMD group is aligned with the Smart Specialisation Strategy of Castilla-La Mancha 2014-2020 (RIS3), in which information technologies (ICT) are defined as a cross-cutting factor with application in different priority sectors and the commitment to the development of synergies between the health sector and essential enabling technologies.

The group’s lines of research are as follows:

  • Evolutionary computation and metaheuristics
  • Data mining and machine learning
  • Probabilistic Graphical Models and Bayesian Networks
  • Natural Language Processing
  • Mobile robotics (autonomous robots)
  • Intelligent systems
